Have I mentioned what cool kids I have? Yesterday they had eye appts (like me) and we all got our pupils dilated. They got the cheapy temporary sunshades for the ride home. All the way home they laughed at how funny they looked and hummed and sang "Secret Agent Man." When we got home, they posed for this picture.

And here is a close-up of one of my iris blossoms. I love the big, showy peach ones, but the purple and white are lovely too. Flowers are late this year. It's been so cool and rainy. My peonies are ready to pop any minute now. I can't wait. I have two new varieties I planted last year.

What's blooming where you are?

  3. Imagine that, I have irises blooming too. I have never seen one like your peach one, it's gorgeous. I have 4 different kinds/combos of purple. My peonies are getting close also, can't wait to bring those in the house. The lilacs are blooming. The lupine are blooming, both red and blue, very pretty.

The kids are very cool. I'm sure I just saw a commercial that says you could pay hundreds of dollars to look that cool!

  4. How cute!!! Your kids must be a lot of fun =)

I'm *supposed* to have irises too, but for some reason they aren't coming up. Maybe they've had enough. One year my husband chopped them with the weed whacker, not knowing they weren't weeds because they weren't in bloom. Perhaps they're taking a year off.

  5. Very cool picture of your kids!
I have daylilies blooming, another kind of yellow lily, hollyhocks, and on the patio--hibiscus. I love this time of year when everything is so bright and fresh before the mad dog days of summer press in on us.
    Loved your peach Iris!

  6. Everything finished blooming here three or four weeks ago. We're in full summer mode now, with daily highs in the low 90s. Yuck!

  8. Your irises are lovely! They're my favorite flower, especially the purple ones.

We're past all the spring flowers like irises and tulips and into the summer flowers, which is mostly beautiful weeds. The gardenias are finishing up and they're the last of the "real" flowers. My mom's wisteria has a few random blooms on it. Don't know why. The hydrangeas are still at full bloom. Even ours which is usually absolutely pitiful. And roses bloom 10 months out of the year down here.

Being in a sub-tropical climate we also have hibiscus and bougainvillea out the wazoo right now. The bougainvillea especially are enjoying the hot, dry weather we're having. One of them seems to be doubling in size every week. The trumpet vines are in full bloom too. In California they're hot in landscaping, down here they're a poisonous weed. If birds eat the seed pods they die.
