Isn't this bear a hoot? He was at the Denver Zoo, and he laid there like a rug for a very long time. Another bear was clowning all over the exhibit, but this one wouldn't get up for anything. He kinda looks like I felt when I got home from vacation--a vacation that included the ACFW Conference.
So this week's Friday Five is: Five things I loved about the 2009 ACFW Conference.
1. Seeing friends, new and old. Hanging with writers. Sooooo fun!
2. A continuing ed class that blew my mind. Karen Ball and Allen Arnold. They each have such a heart for writers, for books, for readers. And they want writers to THRIVE. They spent hours teaching us how to do just that.
3. Meeting with my editor, JoAnne, and realizing we were more than just editor/author, but friends.
4. Hearing the inspirational story of how Debbie Macomber went from wannabe to world-famous writer.
5. Buying books in the bookstore and getting them signed by the authors, esp. Aaron McCarver, my copy editor, whose first Heartsong released just recently.
So, how about you? What did you love about the conference, or, if you didn't go to the conference, how about what did you like about your vacation? OR if you didn't go on vacation, something recently that made you laugh, like that picture of the bear made me laugh.
Oh I love the Denver zoo. I used to live about 30mins drive from it and took my son there all the time. Have they finished the elephant enclosure? I am sure they have. They were working on it five years ago when I left. Great pic. :)
ReplyDeleteThat bear makes me laugh too! My son makes me laugh on a daily basis. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that picture. Bears are the best. They know when to chillax
ReplyDeleteCute pic! I of course loved the conference and one of my favorite parts was seeing you and my other online blogging buddies! I already can't wait for next year - though I can definitely wait to fly!!!! Shudder
ReplyDeleteThat is truly an awesome bear. I feel more relaxed just looking at him.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I saw this picture on my dashboard and thought that this looks exactly like the bear I saw at the Denver Zoo when I went with my family last weekend. He was doing the same thing! And then I open your post and there it is. Yep, the same bear. How funny!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to hear some of your favorite things about the conference. I hope I get the opportunity to go next year! Have a great weekend :)
Aw, this is sweet, Erica. I made the Friday Five list! Thanks! I enjoy your Friday posts, and I definitely enjoyed getting to spend some time with you at ACFW and getting to meet your family, as well! :)
ReplyDeleteMeeting all you writing blog friends was a definite gift, and the inspirational speeches, and the good learning.
ReplyDeleteI love that bear--he looks like I wish I could be right now since I'm fighting a scratchy throat and stuffy nose.
Love the bear! Looking forward to seeing more pics!
ReplyDeleteThat big old bear is so cute. Awesome picture!
ReplyDeleteI love how your positive attitude comes through every post. Thanks for that!
Have a great weekend!
I can't wait to attend the ACFW- prayfully soon.
ReplyDeleteI did have a wonderful vacation to North Carolina, just hubby and I. He took me to visit my prayer partner and we had a blast! It was a double blessing for me because the premise of my MS is set in North Carolina and I had never been.
God bless!
I loved the Denver Zoo. My favorite part was seeing okapi there. Okapi are my favorite, but very few zoos have them. I'd never seen one before. Very cool!

My favorite part of the conference was also kind of the suckiest part, oddly. It was my first time away from my daughter (she turns 2 in December). I loved having the "me time" to focus on writing and building friendships, but I also missed her like crazy. (And your Friday Five kicked my Friday Five's butt.)
ReplyDeleteTabitha, I'm told the elephant enclosure is finished, at least as far as my intrepid tourist family could tell when they viewed it. :)
ReplyDeleteKatie, it is so great to hear how much delight you take in your son. My kids are a constant source of enjoyment and entertainment to me.
CJ, Peter has about a dozen pictures of those bears, the one lying flat out and the other being a complete goofball. I loved his descriptions of their antics.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, will you fly next year or will you drive to Indy?
CKHB...he does look like he's well aquainted with napping, doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteCindy, we'll def. need to meet up in Indy. I'm going to start the countdown widget at the beginning of the year. :)
JoAnne! Yay, and thanks for visiting. My family enjoyed meeting you too, and my husband commented on how young both you and Becky were. I'm not sure what he was expecting, but you two youngsters surprised him. :)
ReplyDeleteEileen, :( I hope you're feeling better soon. I think the bear method of convalescing works pretty good, lay around and growl. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda, be careful what you wish for. Peter took close to 2000 picures. :)
Jill, :) I love that picture of you. So cheerful and sunny. Thanks for dropping in.
ReplyDeleteTamika, Yay for husbands who incorporate research into family vacations!
Heather, next week I want to post your lion picture. That one made me laugh too!
ReplyDeleteSteph, I love doing the Friday Five most weeks. It's when I can't think of a topic that it gets tough. And I'm not afraid to revisit a topic that folks liked once. One of my favorites is Things You'll NEVER Hear Me Say. People's comments on those are soooo funny.
Love the picture! And I loved ACFW too! Especially meeting so many of my blogging buddies for the first time! Like you!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was able to go to that conference. I was in Oregon for a wedding. That was an incredible vacation for my entire family.
ReplyDeleteJody, it is always so great to meet up with folks you've only met online. I really enjoyed meeting you. :)
ReplyDeleteHeather, I've never been to Oregon. The pictures of the coastline that I've sseen are amazing.
Sounds like you had a fantastic time! Love the picture of the bear, he looks how I feel sometimes; ;))
ReplyDeleteHey, Lee, thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I could so do an imitation of that bear some days. :)
