The Friday Five

This week's Friday Five is:

Five things I keep in my desk drawer: (And for the record, the above picture is NOT my desk. I found the photo on morguefile.)

1. My MP3 player. I like to listen to music while I do bookwork. Can't listen to it while I'm writing, but I like it for the number-crunching.

2. My red pen. A gift from a friend to be used signing books. :) I love it!

3. A little bag of catnip. Treat for the kitty. I rub it on one of her stuffed toys from time to time and she goes nuts.

4. A hair scrunchie. For when I'm working hard and my hair is bothering me. I pull it up into a pony-tail and get it out of my face.

5. My pocket New Testament. This was a gift from my church when I graduated from 8th grade. It's a handy reference.

What's in your desk drawer?

  1. In my deskdrawer: a stapler, staple remover, assorted pens, mechanical pencils, highlighter, 2 boxes of staples, assorted computer cables, wire cutters, and a screwdriver with mulitiple magnetic heads. Looks like I'm missing a hammer for percussive maintenance.

  2. Notebooks and papers, but they don't have to do with my manuscript. :-)
    Have a great weekend!

  3. Believe it or not, my desk doesn't have drawers! Very odd, isn't it? I love what's in your drawer. I hope to have a fancy red pen to sign books someday!!

  4. Katie, I knew we shared a lot in common...but...my desk doesn't have drawers either! :)

Erica, my desk has a book called "Someday" on it, pics of my kids, and about 100 sticky notes with my illegible scribblings on them.

    Have a great weekend,
    ~ Wendy

  5. LOL, glad you clarified that it wasn't your desk!

Let's see...on mine (since I use the kitchen table)...notebook, laptop, pens, post-its, books. Wow, I'm really lame.

  6. Oh, my. Which desk drawer?
Book plates, thank-you notes, two hole punchers, assorted staples, clips, CDs, business cards, two battery charges and loose batteries (dead? alive?).

    And that's the smallest drawer.
    Sigh.

  7. LOL - that may as well be my desk...

It would take me forever to list out the contents of the desk drawer at home, and I never use it anyway (I write in the living room in my chair).

Here at work in my main drawer, I have: Business cards, pens, stapler, tape, chocolate/goji bar, Dept. phone list, tape measure, CD and rubber bands. :-)

  8. I just set up my desk recently--it's the first time I've had one for writing. (It must be my own attempt at being more professional.) So...I only have pens and bookmarks in there so far. Nothing too exciting.

  9. Hi, the first 5 things that come to mind ...

    1. An index card file, with ideas ... plot snippets, possible titles, dialogue snatches, most not related to any work in progress in particular!
    2. A clipboard folder with loose pages, again of random thoughts and ideas related to writing, home deco/ design, kids toys to make, home ed., and things I found inspiring and printed. To be sorted and filed before they breed!
    3. A 'claim your lost superannuation' form, for $22.48 in a surname from the distant past.
    4. My address book and page of passwords and account names, about 30 of them ... now you know all my secrets!
    5. Curtain rings, which I'm using for hanging ed. posters for easy display changes, and for groups of laminated cards with the kids favourite words.

Sorry I rarely have a short answer, and I liked your question!

  10. I don't have a desk drawer, but I love what you have in yours! I hope to get an awesome Signing Pen some day! :)

  11. Isn't the red pen awesome? I received one when my first book was published and I still use it after 9 years.
I'll post a pic on twitter so you can see how I sit on my desk (the floor) with feet usually on the wall.

  12. I have more than one desk drawer... all the more to fill with clutter! The top one has a container with extra pens, pencils and highlighters, a ruler, stapler and box of staples, calculator, pads of sticky notes, a packet of index cards -- and the front corner is filled with assorted paint chips (we're repainting the house). The second drawer is totally filled with piles of CD's... backups of mss, software, photos and a few of my current music favourites. And the bottom drawer is a file drawer. I have a supply cupboard in my office from the days when I used to run a business from there, so most of the mess of papers gets hidden behind the door. :)
