New Poll

This week I have a new poll in the right margin.

I'm curious to know how many books you are reading right now.

Are you a One-at-a-time reader?

Do you have one for your purse, one on your bedside table, and one in the bathroom? (Come on, I know there are bathroom readers out there.)

Do you have books going in different genres? A self-help and a contemporary romance, a cookbook and a memoir?

Myself, I have several books going at one time. I'm reading a mystery out loud to my husband, a contemporary romance I got at a recent book-signing, a biography/memoir that always encourages me, and an historical romance that I got at another book-signing.

I'm also stalking the UPS man for a new writing book and a new thriller that should arrive at the end of this week.

So, I'm interested in your reading habits. Take the poll, then leave a comment to tell me at least one book you're reading this week.

  1. I'm reading three. One through my small group - we're reading Love and Respect. Another during my quiet times - Experiencing God. And another for pleasure - Jenny B. Jones's Save the Date.

  2. I'm a one at a time reader. It would take me forever to read a book if I had several going at once!

  3. I used to be a one book at a time reader. But lately, because my time is more limited, I try to have several going, and I'll pick a different one up each time I have reading time. Except when that one book just pulls my attention toward it and I can't NOT read it! Last week I read Always The Baker Never The Bride, in two days. I started Save The Date yesterday and I'll probably have that done today!! I wish ALL books were like that for me, sadly there are many that I never get back to.

  4. Yikes! How do you all do that? I'm definitely a one at a time type person. I carry the same book with me everywhere.

  5. I used to read a couple of books at a time, but now don't seem to have the time to read just one straight through. I'm reading Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol on my Nook Color

  6. I'm often reading as many as seven or eight books at one time. Every second I get I pick up something to read.

    I clicked 4-6 but I don't think it registered.

  7. Erica, I read one novel at a time. However, I'm also reading a craft book a chapter at a time.

  8. I used to be one at the time but right now I'm doing two. I could see three without much problem either. It's not by where I read, but rather the subject. Right now it's a book in my genre and a non-fiction book. But sometimes I'll read a different fiction book, not from my genre when I'm trying to take a day off so I can try to turn the writer brain off.

  9. What a fun poll! I'm always curious about the reading habits and interests of others.

Right now I am reading one non-fiction, "Slave" by John MacArthur; one old classic that I never got around to reading as a teenager, "Jane of Lantern Hill" by L.M. Montgomery; and I am waiting for one in my mailbox which is...."Clara and the Cowboy" by Guess Who?! I already have "Lily and the Lawman" and "Maggie and the Maverick" and I didn't feel right without the complete trilogy! :-)

  10. I usually have 2-3 going at a time. Just finished Jenny B. Jones' Save the Date last night and loved it, so now I'm down to 2. Hoping to finish those before I begin any more.

  11. I'm working on Siri Mitchell's A Heart Most Worthy, the one with an omniscient narrator who's actually talking to us off and on throughout the book.

I'm also reading Catwalk by Melody Carlson. Talk about two different books!

  12. Right now I'm reading three. I don't particularly like that method since I feel pulled in too many directions. I'm juggling Bringing up Girls by Dr. Dobson a very old Janette Oke book and bits and pieces of Plot and Structure.

  13. I prefer to read one at a time but if someone sparks an interest than I'll read more than one at a time.

Anna and the French Kiss & The Liar Society were the last two I read together. I loved it.

  14. When it comes to fiction I can only read one at a time, and I tend to take it everywhere with me until it's done. That said, I clicked 2-3 on your poll because I also have a craft book on the go at all times... sometimes a 'how to' book, but often an inspirational book. (My favourites of those are Bonni Goldberg's "Room to Write" and Jane Yolen's "Take Joy".)

  15. I am a straight through reader for the most part. If the book is good, I get so absorbed in the storyworld that it's hard to hop from planet to planet ;)
