Wednesday Whimsy

This week's Wednesday Whimsy is a picture of my mama across the table from me at a lovely tea house in Mt. Dora, Florida. We enjoyed a complete English High Tea together. Queen cake, crumpets, crullers, scones, clotted cream, strawberry preserves, cucumber sandwiches (sans crusts) and more. And the HOTTEST peach tea in a cunning little teapot complete with tea cozy.

So much fun! The downtown area of Mt. Dora is one little shop, boutique, and art gallery after another, and we walked and shopped and made memories.

In an aside, Angela Hunt's Fairlawn Series is set in Mt. Dora, FL, if you're interested. We found a bookstore that had a set of her books, and they were so proud to have a fiction series set in their town.

So, Q4U, what is one cool memory you have with your mom, dad or anyone that you love? Have you ever had high tea? Have you ever been to Florida/Mt. Dora.

  1. I'm pretty sure I've passed through Mt. Dora. Isn't it near Orlando? No high tea for me but I do have good memories with my family members. :-) Looks like you two had a great time!

  2. Your momma looks so sweet! What a special time for you two! Every once in awhile my mom takes me shopping and out for lunch. We always have so much fun. Lots of laughter and hugs through the day. :)

  3. Lovely pic of your mama. We'll have to take afternoon tea at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Very posh.

  5. Love seeing a picture of your mama!! Great memory....when I was little, my mom and I would play this silly game where we'd move all the chairs out of the kitchen, dump a whole big bowl full of bouncy balls out, and go crazy. Something so simple, yet way fun.

  6. So fun! It looks super yummy! When I led women's ministry I took the ladies to high tea and it was fabulous. My mouth still waters thinking about those desserts!

When my mom visits, we go to a real French bakery. The lady moved here and started one up. The breads are amazing and we usually spend $40 on bread! A piece! LOL

  7. YES! My mom lives so close to there. I love Goblin's Market. And how cool about Angela Hunt. I love her writing.

And I'm kind of lovin' your mom after seeing this picture.
I've walked right by that tea shop!

  8. How wonderful that you got to spend some time with your mom and take High Tea together.

I'll be visiting my mom next month and look forward to taking her out for dinner in honor of her birthday. We both enjoy Mexican food, so I'm sure that's what she'll choose. Yum!

  9. Delightful! Place this with your wonderful memories with your mom. I have been there years back. I know that they have a huge flea market there every year. My mom memory...I would have to say going to see The Nutcracker ballet. Enjoyed visiting you, Erica!

  10. My cousin and her husband own Legacy House Imports in Madison, WI, and serve a delightful English afternoon tea tray of finger sandwiches, scones, breads and dainty desserts. Scones and clotted cream with many tea varieties are my favorites. I am sure you made many happy memories together!
Erica! Thank you so much! I received your package today!! with two additional... thank you for your kindness! Kathleen ~*~ Missouri

  11. My mom died much too soon (1983). We lived in opposite ends of the country (Canada) so any visit was precious. She wasn't a "high tea" sort of person, but one favourite memory is going snowshoeing with her during a Christmas visit. My parents lived in a wilderness area so the snow was pristine, the sky was blue, and the silence was unlike anything I was accustomed to as a city gal.
